Custom Cycling Jerseys for Clubs: A Buyer's Checklist | Shaunz Sports

Custom sublimated cycling jersey for a cycling club

Why your club kit matters

A great club jersey does more than keep riders cool. It makes your group easy to spot on the road, builds team pride, and turns every ride into free advertising for your club and sponsors.
But ordering custom cycling jerseys can feel confusing the first time. Fabrics, fits, zips, sizing, minimum order quantities, delivery dates: there is a lot to get right. One wrong choice can leave you with kit that riders don't want to wear.
This checklist walks club organisers, team captains and race directors through every decision, step by step. Use it before you request a quote from any supplier, and you will know exactly what to ask for.

The club jersey buyer's checklist

1. Choose the right fabric

Fabric decides how the jersey feels on a long, hot climb. Look for lightweight, breathable polyester or polyester-elastane blends that wick sweat away from the skin.
• Summer rides: light mesh panels on the sides and back for airflow.
• Cool months: thermal fleece-backed fabric for long-sleeve jerseys.
• Sun protection: ask whether the fabric has a UV rating.

2. Pick the fit: club cut or race cut

Most clubs have riders of every shape and speed, so fit matters.
• Club (relaxed) fit: a little looser, comfortable for social rides and most members.
• Race (aero) fit: close to the body, less flapping in the wind, preferred by racers.
Many clubs order both: a race cut for their racing squad and a club cut for everyone else, in the same design.

3. Get the design right

Sublimation printing is the standard for cycling jerseys. The ink becomes part of the fabric, so colours never crack, peel or fade, and you can use full-colour graphics with no extra cost per colour.
• Keep your club name and logo large and clear on the front, back and sleeves.
• Use bright or contrasting colours so riders are visible to drivers.
• Plan sponsor logo space early, so sponsors get good placement.
• Always ask for a digital mock-up and approve it before production starts.

4. Check the details that make a jersey last

Small features separate a good jersey from a cheap one:
• A smooth full-length or half-length zip that doesn't jam.
• Three rear pockets, plus a zipped pocket for keys or a phone.
• A silicone gripper at the waist so the jersey stays in place.
• Flat-lock stitching to stop rubbing on long rides.
• Reflective strips for early-morning and evening rides.

5. Sort out sizing before you order

Sizing problems are the number one complaint with club kit. Ask your supplier for a size chart and, if possible, a size sample set your members can try on. Collect every rider's size in one sheet before placing the order, and order a few extra jerseys for new members.

6. Ask about minimum order quantity

Some suppliers need 50 or 100 pieces per design. Smaller clubs should look for a manufacturer with low minimums, so you don't pay for kit nobody wears.

7. Plan your timeline

Work backwards from the date you need the kit, such as the start of the season or a club event. Allow time for design, mock-up approval, production and international shipping. Starting 6–8 weeks ahead is a safe rule.

8. Set a realistic budget

Price depends on fabric, fit, quantity and extras like matching bib shorts, gilets or jackets. Buying direct from the factory usually costs far less than buying through a reseller, because there is no middleman markup.

Frequently asked questions

How many jerseys does my club need to order? It depends on the supplier. Ask about minimum order quantities before you start designing, especially if your club is small.
Can we mix sizes and fits in one order? Yes. Most clubs order a range of sizes, and many add both club-fit and race-fit jerseys in the same design.
Can we add matching bib shorts and jackets? Yes. Ordering a full kit in one go keeps colours consistent across every item.
Will the print fade after washing? Not with sublimation printing. The design is dyed into the fabric, so it lasts as long as the jersey.
Can we reorder later for new members? Yes. Keep your approved design on file with your supplier, so top-up orders match the original kit.
